What is the story about?

Paul Compton was a star quarterback on the football team in his high school. His family had money until his father lost everything. Paul is reduced from being the good looking kid who had the friends, money and girls to taking a job at a local burger joint. It’s there Paul is introduced to the charismatic Cole Jeffries who always has a smile on his face and is constantly talking about salvation. Paul soon comes to salvation along with his once very vain sister.

Several years later, Paul finds himself married with two kids and his longtime friend Cole is now married to his sister and is a televangelist. Paul finds himself weighted down by the stress of balancing work, marriage, kids, church, money and life in general. On a business trip he makes a mistake that spirals him out of control. He is overcome with regret and eventually finds himself out of a family, drinking heavily and sinking farther down than he’s ever been.

Below you will find the beginning of the story to preview.

Without further ado, here is the beginning of the story:

Tad was growing more and more anxious with each passing day. He was still following Sergeant Hopkins’ advice, and was pretending to be far sicker than he actually was. However, he was certain Doctor Morton was beginning to see through his pretense. In addition, the days he had left on his sabbatical were rapidly growing short. It wouldn’t be long before he had to return to his priestly duties, or explain to the Bishop why he had, in effect, abandoned his parish, and his calling.
Most frustrating, however, was the condition of Thomas Rafferty. Rafferty had slipped back into a coma shortly after telling Tad he was willing to testify against his employers, the same men who had tried to eliminate him permanently, not once, but twice. Even more vexing, Rafferty had lost consciousness before he could divulge the location of the hidden key to his safe deposit box at the Austin National Savings and Loan. Apparently, that box held enough evidence to put the men responsible for so much death and destruction, including the ambush attack on Chaz, Tad’s Texas Ranger twin brother. Without Rafferty’s permission, Sergeant Hopkins told Tad he couldn’t possibly search his house for the key. All they could do was wait, until Rafferty was awake again. While Doctor Morton assured Tad that Rafferty was indeed on the road to recovery, and would awaken any time now, the injured man still showed no sign of regaining consciousness.
Tad had eaten breakfast, said his morning office, and had taken a nap. He had been received permission from Doctor Morton to sit outside for a short time. The doctor had been persuaded by Tad that fresh air and sunshine would be the best medicine for him at this time.
Tad was at the wash stand, cleaning up before he changed into clean clothes. He glanced at his image in the mirror and laughed. His parishioners knew him only as a mild-mannered priest, always ready to smile, and quick with a joke. If they ever saw him like he was now, shirtless, they would be confounded by the numerous bullet and knife scars his upper torso bore. Once they got over their shock, they would probably want him defrocked. Explaining away how he got those scars would be difficult, indeed. And, unfortunately, even among people of the Church, there were always a few who would never believe he had fully changed his ways, understand he had left his previous life as a cowboy, lawman, and fast gun behind, in order to serve God. If some of those people discovered he had taken lives with his six-gun, they would never be able to forgive him. Better his secret remained a secret.

Get ready for Joseph Max Lewis "Surprise Announcement"!

"Friends, I’m postponing this week’s Blog on Dogs in favor of a surprise announcement. It sure was a surprise to me.

The Diaries of Pontius Pilate might become a tv/movie!

This morning I checked my josephmaxlewis.com fellowshipessentials email box and found a note from an individual representing an organization that will remain nameless for now, asking to be put in touch with my Agent and saying, in part:

"I am trying to track down the film/TV rights to your book, THE DIARIES OF PONTIUS PILATE . . . who handles the film/TV rights on your behalf? . . . one of our clients was interested in THE DIARIES OF PONTIUS PILATE. I can be reached at . . ."

Giant of faith that I am, of course I thought it might be a joke, so I checked it out and it sure does look legit. Its in the hands of my Agent now, so . . . while their people talk to my people . . . kidding!"

Thanks, Max

Meet Tony Hilling, author the soon to be released "The Voice of Aedistamen - Volume 1 - The Child's Arrival"

Perhaps his Breton, Celtic fathers are the reason for it -- the story telling, I mean. Because it spans three careers as priest, lawyer, and Christian pastor. Then, there’s the other side, of course: the female line, which is a proliferation of the Gaelic Celtic – more story telling interspersed with fiery feminine war cries.

What’s story telling got to do with lawyering? If you’ve never appeared before a judge, told him a story (a true one) about the case in question, and have little penchant for narrative, don’t ever try it! There are few things more mentally painful than the sarcasm of the judiciary. Similarly, don’t ever expect your congregation to listen to you if can’t put together a modern day parable that is faithful to the New Testament variety. You’ll wind up preaching to yourself and getting frightfully bored.

Add to this a balladeer’s gift of writing soul-seeking songs and performing them on stage, and you begin to apprehend him.

And perhaps it’s because this rather strange Scot did not quite fit in those ‘aforementioned’ careers that he finally decided to get serious about narrative and create some stories of his own, from scratch of course. Or maybe it was simply because, true to his counter-cultural, God-smitten, Celtic ancestors, he wanted to tell stories about a faithful Presence in a godless age.

FOR THOSE WHO PREFER A MORE TRADITIONAL BIO

Anthony J. Hilling, LLB, BTh, M.A.: pastor, lawyer, story-teller. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, and educated in England and Northern Ireland. After a short time as a barrister in Belfast, he came to Canada in 1976. He practised law in Calgary, but heard the call of a “Different Drummer”. He went to seminary in Ottawa and was ordained for the RC Diocese of Calgary.

But the single life, though perhaps someone else’s call, was not his, and he left to return briefly to his first career as a lawyer. However, the “Ghaedesh-Mor” is stubborn, and impressed upon him that his destiny was to be a shepherd. He was ordained again, this time as a non-denominational Christian pastor and still serves in Southern Alberta.

He is married to his wonderful wife, Brenda and the couple have two children. Tony is also an amateur folksinger and has performed in churches and clubs. He has produced one cassette, a mixture of his own faith ballads and traditional folk songs.

Coming Soon: Flora Reigada's Devotional ""Where Your Heart Meets God's""

The jewels and hearts in the "Where Your Heart Meets God's" cover illustrate the Bible verse on which the devotions are based. "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also" (Matthew 6:21, KJV).

Flora Reigada's assignments as a correspondent for several newspapers including the Florida Today and now for Senior Life, brought her and photographer-husband, Dan, to many interesting people and places.
People include the chef to NASA astronauts and the historian whose passion for history was born in an old, overgrown cemetery.
Flora has also explored forests, nature trails, art shows, vintage theaters, Victorian homes and a castle, the Castillo de San Marcos in St. Augustine, Florida.
While on assignment at a ranch, she was nearly trampled by a spooked horse that had just thrown its rider.
Even so, "it has been an adventure and a privilege," Flora said.
In her spare time, Flora is head chef, broom and mop operator extraordinaire in her home.
She and Dan are proud parents and grandparents. The New York natives now live in Central Florida.

Coming Soon: Anne Baxter Campbell's "Once Upon...Volume 8 - A Bad Valentine"

When she gets a homemade valentine with a malicious verse and white powder inside, Jillian wonders who could have it in for her. When the white stuff turns out to be powdered sugar, police think maybe it’s just some joke. But then three of her friends also receive similar cards.
The police say even if it’s just a joke, the sender needs to come to realize this is not something they take lightly. Whoever it is will receive a smart slap on the wrist, at a minimum.
Then they put a former boyfriend of one of them in juvie and consider the case solved. Except the valentines keep coming, the verses keep getting worse, and the powder is no longer innocuous.
This is getting serious.

Anne Baxter Campbell is a writer with a mission: to provide entertainment while walking readers closer to the Lord who loves them beyond belief..

Look for this title to be released 1/29 as part of our "Thirsty Thursday" Party!!!!!

Patti J. Smith will be a part of EWTN's documentary "The Sidewalk Chronicles" airing January 20th & 24th!

I was blessed and honored to be part of the newly released documentary, "The Sidewalk Chronicles".

From Visionary Film Productions: "The Sidewalk Chronicles" is a documentary film that will give a TRUE up close and personal account of what it is like to be associated with an unplanned pregnancy. From there, the story delves into the lives of numerous individuals who have answered the call to support and care for those affected. It is a true story of healing and hope.

The Sidewalk Chronicles includes candid interviews with women faced with an unplanned pregnancy and the subsequent result after they decided to abort, keep the baby or place the baby for adoption.

The documentary also goes to the streets interviewing people at random about abortion and adoption with surprising results, and introduces people who are making a significant difference in the lives of women faced with an unplanned pregnancy.

Nathan Leon (Director, Writer & Producer) and Meghan Hervert (Writer & Co-Producer) take on a sensitive and controversial subject with honesty and compassion. You will not only hear about painful experiences from women who decided on abortion but witness the hope and joy of the women who decided to keep their baby as well as those who decided on adoption.

THE SIDEWALK CHRONICLES will be broadcast on EWTN on the following dates and times (these are West Coast- California times): January 20th 12:30AM & January 24th 8:00 PM

From the director: "Additionally, we recently learned the film will be broadcast world wide on EWTN to the UK/Ireland, Africa, India, Canada, and the Pacific Rim. Please encourage any friends and family to watch the film and share it with others. It is our hope that Sidewalk Chronicles reach women in crisis pregnancies across the nation."
