Do you LOVE Devotionals? Check out Day 1 of Sue Badeau's "Clean Heart,Renewed Joy"! What do you think?

Day 1 – Beginning

Read Psalm 51
Be gracious to me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness;
According to the greatness of Your compassion blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity
And cleanse me from my sin.
3 For I know my transgressions,
And my sin is ever before me.
4 Against You, You only, I have sinned
And done what is evil in Your sight,
So that You are justified when You speak
And blameless when You judge.
5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,
And in sin my mother conceived me.
6 Behold, You desire truth in the innermost being,
And in the hidden part You will make me know wisdom.
7 Purify me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
8 Make me to hear joy and gladness,
Let the bones which You have broken rejoice.
9 Hide Your face from my sins
And blot out all my iniquities.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11 Do not cast me away from Your presence
And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation
And sustain me with a willing spirit.
13 Then I will teach transgressors Your ways,
And sinners will be converted to You.
14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, the God of my salvation;
Then my tongue will joyfully sing of Your righteousness.
15 O Lord, open my lips,
That my mouth may declare Your praise.
16 For You do not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it;
You are not pleased with burnt offering.
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;
A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.
18 By Your favor do good to Zion;
[n]Build the walls of Jerusalem.
19 Then You will delight in]righteous sacrifices,
In burnt offering and whole burnt offering;
Then young bulls will be offered on Your altar.

Begin today by reading Psalm 51 in its entirety. Use a parallel Bible reading tool and read it three or four times in different translations. Ask God to give you eyes to see and ears to hear it anew as if you are reading it for the first time. As you reflect, listen to the stirring rendition in music, by Keith Green. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rv16YUTCp9U&feature=kp )

Ask God to prepare your heart to receive His life-giving words over the next six weeks. Take a few minutes to write in your journal – what are your “first-impressions-all-over-again” of this Psalm? What is one hope you have for how God will speak to you and renew your spirit during this season of reflection?

Social Media GPS - Cindy Koepp

Texas is an interesting place. The weather can range from freezing to broiling in less than 24 hours, and even if you live in the cities, you don't have to go anywhere to get up close and personal with wildlife. You can travel from sun-up to sundown and still be in the state. Now and again, you'll run into interesting characters who think Texas is still its own country.

I've lived in Texas for years.

I'm one of those odd creatures who has an education from rival universities. My degree in Wildlife Ecology came from Texas A&M University. Then, a few years later, I went through teacher certification at the University of Texas at Austin. After teaching for a while, I went for a Master's in adult education and performance improvement.

These days, I find time now and again to work on my writing and crafts while I whistle tunes back and forth with a silly Timneh African Grey.

My writing is influenced by the experiences in my life, the people I've met, and the God I worship.

Color my World with Hope! - Sue Badeau

As a little girl there were three things I really wanted to be when I grew up: a singer, a dancer and an artist</b>. Sadly, for me, I can’t carry a tune, I have very little grace or balance and my artistic skills never moved past the cute kindergarten level. Thankfully, God had other plans for my life, but I never lost my love for the creative arts.

When I began my career working with abused, neglected, traumatized and disabled children, I quickly learned that engaging them in artistic activities helped them to communicate, express emotion and calm down when distressed. In addition, singing, dancing or creating artwork raised not only their self esteem but also their grades in school.

During these same years, my family was growing and God blessed me with many children who are gifted artists, singers, musicians and dancers. There is my youngest daughter Alysia, with cerebral palsy. Doctors thought she would never learn to walk, talk or feed herself, but through dance she gained enough self-confidence to become a successful and poised young woman and mother.

My daughter Trish and my son Fisher sing so beautifully they were chosen for state and regional choirs during their high school years, soloed at family weddings and melted my heart when they dedicated special songs to me, including “Dream the Impossible Dream.”

My daughter SueAnn designs jewelry and dreamcatchers that bring in rave reviews from participants at craft fairs while also providing her with a stress-releasing outlet after a full day juggling work and raising six children. My son Abel creates portraits of family members that not only accurately reflect their physical characteristics, but also perfectly capture the very essence of their heart and spirit.

These are just a few examples of the great talent among my children and now my grandchildren as well. My daughter Chelsea is not only an accomplished artist whose murals appear in places as diverse as a family court building in Philadelphia and a church in Kenya, but she is gifted with the ability to teach art to others. She has taught me so much about how to continue using art as a technique for promoting healing from trauma that we decided to team up and produce a special coloring book for adults.

This book not only builds on the adult-coloring book trend that is popular today, but also includes over 50 pages of tips on caring for children who have experienced trauma. Designed as a companion book to the classes and workshops I teach all over the country, it also stands alone as a unique tool where you can relax and learn at the same time. Chelsea has created dozens of unique pieces of artwork for this book, while also curating whimsical pieces designed by several of my other children and grandchildren. This book is truly a family project and we believe it will bring hours of fun and new glimmers of hope to everyone who uses it!

Titled Building Bridges of Hope: A Coloring Book for Adults Caring for Children Who Have Experienced Trauma, this book will be released by Helping Hands Press in the spring of 2016. You will be able to find it on Amazon and on Sue Badeau’s own webpage, www.suebadeau.com

When everything has seemed to conspire against him in the Silver Mines, Owa’en’s fortunes rise a little as he encounters friends who will set him on a new path that will open up to his destiny.

The next few Arcs were a blur for Owa’en. He awoke one morning to find himself in a far more comfortable place than his bed of straw and stone. His shackles were gone too. A face was looking down on him that he vaguely recognized. His thoughts seemed to come very slowly.
“I think I know you from somewhere?”
The face smiled at him. “I didn’t expect to see you again, but you seem to have this habit of surviving. Do you remember my name?”
“I seem to have forgotten everything. I don’t remember coming here.”
“My name is Bansadok. I’m the healer here. Apparantly, you failed to show up for work one Arc, and they found you later in your bed in a kind of a trance or Long Sleep. You weren’t able to walk or focus on anything, so they brought you here.
“How long ago?”
“About seven Arcs. You’ve slept most of the time.”
“What’s wrong with me? Where is this place?”
“I think you just got overwhelmed. Not very surprising for what I have heard you’ve gone through. This is the infirmary.”
“What did I go through?”
Bansadok paused a moment. Then he seemed to come to a decision. “Can you tell me your name?”
Owa’en looked up, blankly, then his eyes seemed to register that he was searching in his mind for some lost piece of information. It was extremely important, but he couldn’t find it. He started to weep like a child.
Bansadok simply held him and said, “Don’t be sad, it will be fine in a little while. Just rest! Do not let yourself be troubled or upset…” He found himself consoling the other but without fully understanding.

*****

“So, from what I understand of your diagnosis, Owa’en has …lost his mind?” The Warden’s question to Bansadok came another seven Arcs later.
Bansadok looked up at the Warden and said, “That is correct, Sir, as far as I can determine from my observation of him over the last fourteen Arcs.” Bansadok looked down again. He had been assigned to the infirmary once his gifts had been made known, but spent most of his time catering to the Warden because the latter was suffering from tumors. Bansadok knew that he was getting worse but had managed to treat him for pain. He had ministered to many Davarenges in the city of Davarenspay, but found the Warden by far the odious man he had ever met. It was as if his eyes could not abide to look upon him.
“Is this condition permanent, or is it temporary?”
“I have heard of it before, Sir, when a person has experienced some shock or series of shocks, sometimes the mind cannot cope and simply shuts down. I have rarely dealt with it, twice I think. One was permanent, the other temporary. I believe it depends on how we proceed now.”
“Well I want to make sure that he returns to his former self. I have to make continual reports to the king and he is extremely frustrated that Owa’en is still alive. He has this burning desire to have him eaten by that Serpent.”
“If the Warden will pardon me expressing an opinion: there are few torments more bitter than losing one’s mind, and knowing at the same time that it is lost, Sir. How much torment does His Highness wish to happen to Owa’en?”
“As much as can be conveniently provided in this institution, my dear healer. Therefore, make sure that he recovers and as soon as he does, we will, of course, oblige our liege lord the king. After all, how can a man be tortured if he is out of his mind? I want him in his mind, or, should I say, Malengus III Alamadus wants him in his mind, so that he will know his misery, not sleep through it like some drunken fool. Now, if you can help him in any way, it would look very good for your future elsewhere, instead of stuck here. And another thing that drug that you found for me yesterday, though it dulled the pain somewhat necessitated long and rather arduous visits to the latrine. So, I would be very grateful if you could obtain another.”
“Yes, Sir, I will scour the hills for other herbs.”
“Good, Master Bansadok, and make sure you take the dogs with you for protection against any wild beasts. I do not want you to share the same fate as your other patient.”
“Indeed, Sir.”

Tony Hilling reviews Joseph Max Lewis fast paced action THRILLER "Baghdad Burning"!

BAGHDAD BURNING or
I thought my heart was in my mouth until…

Have you ever tried bob-sledding? Perhaps careering down an ice tunnel at speeds of a bone-shaking 90 mph is not your idea of fun. But if you can identify with someone else in some fast paced action, and you like thrillers, try reading Joseph Max Lewis’ “Baghdad Burning”. This book was one wild ride. The opening scenes were graphic and gripping. At one particularly intense moment, I thought my heart was in my mouth until I spied it staring at me fearfully from somewhere behind my left ear! The action moved at such a breakneck pace that I had to almost physically slow it down and re-read certain sections, concerned that I had missed something.

But as usual, I get ahead of myself. The story covers the exploits of Ralph Jackson an ex Green Beret serving in post Saddam Hussein Iraq as he tries to protect a courageous yet star-crossed Christian woman, Isha Hami. Lewis has made Jackson a very believable hero: a flawed, broken man tormented by his demons and self-perceived failures of the past. So forget the indestructible Jack Reacher who never loses a fight, and John Reese of the celebrated Warner Bros TV series, “Person of Interest”, who has been shot so many times, he probably rattles as he swaggers out of another car wreck. Sometimes I wonder if the fantasy genre has invaded every other medium. But I digress!

Two other aspects of the story deserve honourable mention. There were a number of negotiating interfaces in the novel. I was amazed at how Lewis put into black and white the subtle, tortuous, almost back-on-itself reasoning of the Aramean mind. It made me wonder if we Westerners were afflicted with incurable naivete. The author’s ability to set this down in print is a testimony to the depth of his intellect and writing skills. In one encounter between two equally twisted terrorists I was reminded of the words of Jeremiah 17:9, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and beyond cure. Who can understand it?”

Lewis in his own Twitter bio tells us that he himself is an ex-Green Beret. He helpfully translates the Clancy-ese Jarhead-speak and military mumbo jumbo into the Mom and Pop English common in the Midwest and Canada, and for those like myself whose closest encounter with military service was gazing vacantly at a Salvation Army band at Christmas time. I thoroughly enjoyed this book! In the land of Wannabe Superheros, it’s nice that Joseph Max Lewis is one of those who has really seen the action…and can write about it.

Joseph Max Lewis releases his review for "The Posse-V1-Visions"!!!!!!

Joseph Max Lewis has read and reviewed the first story in the new Western series "The Posse - Volume 1 - Visions".

"Plenty of action, historical references and cool inventions make "The Posse - Visions" the thinking man’s Western. Post Civil War America remains littered with dangerous pockets of rebel conspirators still determined to undermine the Union. Enter Shadow, Justice and Winchester, three members of the secretive "Posse," a special ops unit commanded by Union General Milton Cavenaugh. In Visions, the Posse plays a dangerous game of cat and mouse with the traitorous "Circle Clan" in a well described post war New Orleans. This is a unique tale, and one can only hope series, that will keep you reading and thinking for some time to come."

What is the new series all about?

The Posse. Stealth, Swift and Sure was their motto. Frontier justice was their mission. Secrecy was their modus operandi. They were Three West Point graduates with a single mission, to eliminate corruption and injustice wherever it was found, with the clandestine assistance of their handler back at West Point, General Milton Cavanaugh. Cavanaugh was decorated, respected, and in charge of the most secretive law enforcement body of the time, exacting justice and dispensing punishment without court oversight, using technologies still unknown to the common man, across the entire frontier.
