Joey insisted he kept seeing and talking to his dad. He had told his brothers and sister and they thought he just did not understand Pops’ passing. But then Beeker and Joey went to stay with Charlie and Eleanor Winters for the summer. They lived on an old farm in the Abadon Forest . But so did the “Darkened”. They did not want Joey anywhere near the Abadon. Why? They feared his innocence.
The Peach kids were city kids and were used to the streets of the Bronx with the noises and smells and everyday hustle and bustle that was part of city life. When Pops died they were officially “orphaned” and Teddy,18, took over as head of the family. Plans had been made by Father Sullivan for the two youngest, Beeker and Joey, to stay with his friends, Charlie and Eleanor Winters, for the summer. Their first night there, a knock on the door introduces them to Jacob Lightfoot, a boy that no one knows anything about. They befriend Jacob and soon discover that his world is surrounded by darkness and evil. A girl named Lily constantly appears to help Jacob as the attacks on him increase. A hundred years have passed and it is time for The Great Festival of Torment to take place again. Unknown to anyone, Jacob is to be the Sacrificium Humani Agnus, (The Sacrificial Human Lamb), an offering honoring Satan. The Peach kids from the city are about to have a most memorable summer in the country.

In Your Dreams - Flora Reigada

Imagine you have won a week of being catered to at the classy Casa Martin bed & breakfast in sunny St. Augustine, Florida. I say imagine because the elegant, Queen Anne Victorian-style home exists only in the pages of my Castle in the Sun romance series.

The series follows its renovation from abandoned and run-down into a community jewel, much like its inspiration, the Pritchard House in Titusville, Florida. See this elegant home and you will see how I envision the Casa Martin. But while the Pritchard House serves as a community museum, the Casa Martin serves guests generous helpings of fine food and southern hospitality.

In your mind's eye, step onto that welcoming porch to unload your luggage and cares. Admire the ornate, antique furnishings and framed artwork as the owner escorts you upstairs to the master suite. Its shaded veranda, comfortable four-poster bed and soothing Jacuzzi, offer you renewal.
The owner fluffs your pillows, leaves a chocolate and says, "The staff and I are at your service."
Later, you might wander to the parlor to relax on plush furniture and chat with other guests, while being served an appetizing array of drinks and hors d'oeuvres.

Maybe you would rather be out and about seeing the sights. If so, there's plenty to do in Florida and yours is an all-expenses paid vacation. St. Augustine has its landmark castle, the Castillo de San Marcos. Built by the Spanish in the 17th century, its massive bastions crowned with watchtowers rise from the shores of the Matanzas Bay. A stroll along the Castillo roof provides a panorama of bay and city.
Walk across the street to the city's pedestrian mall with its galleries, restaurants and shops. Rather not walk in Florida's heat? From the comfort of a trolley car, you can admire the city's grand and historic buildings, its colonial quarter, old jail, the Fountain of Youth and more.
Farther down the coast, you might tour the Kennedy Space Center. You can even tour the Pritchard House in Titusville.
And who can visit Florida without immersing themselves in the warm ocean?

In this dream vacation, you can fly on the wings of imagination. The characters in my series invite you to join them in romance and adventure, as they journey from New York State's lush forests, to Florida's sunny shores.

The first book in the series, "Love's Sweetest Revenge," was recently released.

God's Covenant Love - Part I - Tony Hilling

I have a confession to make!

In June 1998, I gate crashed a women’s conference. Let me explain. I didn’t change my mode of dress or anything like that. My wife, Brenda went to a conference in Medicine Hat, Alberta, and it was my job to look after my daughter, Christina. She was nine months old at that time but was an early toddler, so I needed to watch her carefully. But I strategically positioned myself at the front door to better hear the goings-on of the women-folk, and I really enjoyed a super conference. In fact, I became so noticeable that at the end of the talks, they sensed that they should pray over the men. Since I was the only one around, I was shanghaied into being the lone surrogate for all the males of the species. And I had all these women laying hands on me and prophesying. There were words for signs and wonders and miracles and breakthrough. I hit the deck so hard that I must have made a landmark.

I say all this because I have been blessed by the women in my life: My mother, my five sisters, my wonderful wife, and my smart, brave daughter. One of my favourite stories of the Bible is about two heroic women: the Book of Ruth. The story follows the experience of Elimelech, his wife, Naomi, and sons (Mahlon & Chilion) who leave for Moab because of famine in Judah. They were from Bethlehem. It seems that their original intention was a temporary stay in this sister country to Israel. Then Elimelech dies in Moab. The two sons marry Moabite women, Orpah and Ruth. Ten years goes by and tragedy strikes again: Both Mahlon and Chilion also die (go figure! Mahlon’s name means sickly; and Chilion means failing).

It is difficult for us today to understand just how much of a disaster this would be for the women of the Middle East in those days. Every woman in that time in Israel was identified in their relationship with a male figure: some brother’s sister, some father’s daughter, some husband’s wife. The sacred writer of Ruth tells us how devastating this loss was: “Naomi was left without her two sons and her husband.”(1:5). With all the males in their family gone, Naomi and Ruth were without protection or support. Their prospects would have been bleak. Who could fix such a hopeless situation?

But before the end of the first chapter of the story, Naomi, in her attempt to dismiss her two daughters-in-law, brings up the subject of the Levirate Law. This provided some relief in such situations, where the scriptures commanded a brother-in-law (or the nearest living male relative) to marry his dead brother’s widow (Deut 25:5). The first male child of the union would be considered the son of the dead brother, so his lineage would be protected and his property would stay in the family. Not inconsequentially, the dead man’s living mother and his widow would also be protected by this near relative, who was called the Kinsman Redeemer. However, the only way Naomi can see that working is for her to marry again and have sons. She knows only too well that this is not going to happen and so insists that Orpah and Ruth return to their respective families. There was little chance of them finding rest in another husband’s home in Israel. Where could they find a relative (as the story later shows) who would sacrifice his first born son to selflessly preserve his dead brother’s lineage?

Joseph Max Lewis announces a Movie Deal for his Thriller Novel "Diaries of Pontius Pilate"!

Friends, I’ve got big news. In 2014 the Christian movie "God’s Not Dead" amazed people by shooting almost to the top of the box office during its opening weeks. Made for about 1 million dollars, "GND" grossed over 100 million dollars the last time I checked. Opening April 1, 2016, "God’s Not Dead 2" is if anything, even better. Check out this link for a very cool preview and forward this mail to your friends:

For the last 11 months I’ve been in discussions with the co-producers, co-writers, and in my layman’s opinion, driving creative force behind God’s Not Dead and God’s Not Dead 2, Chuck Konzelman and Cary Solomon of Believe Entertainment. They thought my first novel, The Diaries of Pontius Pilate, would make a great movie. Check out this link for a description and reviews of "Diaries":

In February we reached a verbal understanding and on March 24, 2016, we exchanged "Comfort Letters" or letters of intent memorializing our agreement in principle for the film rights to The Diaries of Pontius Pilate.

When I asked Believe for permission to announce, Cary mailed back and said to tell you, "we bought Diaries and are excited about it and want to make it."

Chuck Konzelman and Cary Solomon are writing partners, producers, and directors in Los Angeles, California. Together they have over 45 years of experience working in Hollywood. In 2006, they moved over to the Christian Movie Industry, where they wrote and co-produced "God’s Not Dead 2," "God’s Not Dead," "Do you believe?," "The Book of Daniel", "Finding Normal" (TV movie), and "What If…" Other writing credits include "Point Blank," "Race Against Time" (TV movie.), "The Insatiable" and "The Dollhouse." Mr. Solomon is married with a wife and a son. Both live in Los Angeles.

"But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;" 1 Corinthians 1:27

Feast among the Palms - Flora Reigada

In a scene from "Love's Sweetest Revenge" join Liz and Rosa in a luxurious oceanfront condominium, while waves crash onto Florida's sundrenched shore. The condo belongs to Carlos Martín, an international linguist who has worked with the President and flown aboard Air Force One.

Sipping wine from sparkling crystal, Liz and Rosa smile toward the open kitchen where Carlos and his brother Jack, are preparing Cuban cuisine for the foursome.

In their prime with rugged good looks, the brothers smile back, while romantic Spanish music plays in the background. Its castanets and guitars seem to dance in the fragrance of perfectly seasoned meat sizzling on the burner.
Seated on the plush sofa, Liz sways her well-proportioned form to the sensuous strains. Beside her, Rosa claps with the rhythm, its passion reflecting in her dark eyes.

It seemed almost pre-ordained that the attraction between Liz and Carlos would prove irresistible, as would the chemistry between Rosa and Jack, an Army hero.

Rosa smoothes back her velvet-black hair. "I wouldn't change a thing about this trip or this moment."
Soon the table is set, candles are lit and generous portions of food are served.
The meat is crowned with onions and accompanied by yellow rice, black beans and sweet plantains, all cooked to perfection.
"Delicious!" Liz exclaims, closing her eyes for a moment to focus her senses on the mouth-watering food.
Being Latina, Rosa has made similar dishes. Liz is more familiar with the Italian recipes her parents brought from their native Italy.
"Please tell me what everything is and how you prepared it, especially the meat," she asks the brothers. "I might just try making it at home."
Carlos and Jack explain in turn. "The meat is vaca frita, meaning literally, fried cow. It's shredded beef we cook in red wine, lemon and spices such as garlic, oregano and cumin."

The brothers make sure Liz has the recipe. It is similar to one posted as follows: http://icuban.com/food/vaca_frita.html
The complete meal would look like the mouth-watering spread I enjoyed at Roberto's Little Havana Cuban restaurant in Cocoa Beach, Florida. http://robertoslittlehavana.com//

Even if you can't go there, in "Love's Sweetest Revenge," the first in my "Castle in the Sun," romance series, you can join Liz and Carlos, Jack and Rosa on their romantic adventures. Fly away with them to visit a castle and lose your cares in the warm ocean, during a dream Florida vacation seasoned with a pinch of mystery.

Do you LOVE Devotionals? Check out Day 1 of Sue Badeau's "Clean Heart,Renewed Joy"! What do you think?

Day 1 – Beginning

Read Psalm 51
Be gracious to me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness;
According to the greatness of Your compassion blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity
And cleanse me from my sin.
3 For I know my transgressions,
And my sin is ever before me.
4 Against You, You only, I have sinned
And done what is evil in Your sight,
So that You are justified when You speak
And blameless when You judge.
5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,
And in sin my mother conceived me.
6 Behold, You desire truth in the innermost being,
And in the hidden part You will make me know wisdom.
7 Purify me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
8 Make me to hear joy and gladness,
Let the bones which You have broken rejoice.
9 Hide Your face from my sins
And blot out all my iniquities.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11 Do not cast me away from Your presence
And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation
And sustain me with a willing spirit.
13 Then I will teach transgressors Your ways,
And sinners will be converted to You.
14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, the God of my salvation;
Then my tongue will joyfully sing of Your righteousness.
15 O Lord, open my lips,
That my mouth may declare Your praise.
16 For You do not delight in sacrifice, otherwise I would give it;
You are not pleased with burnt offering.
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;
A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.
18 By Your favor do good to Zion;
[n]Build the walls of Jerusalem.
19 Then You will delight in]righteous sacrifices,
In burnt offering and whole burnt offering;
Then young bulls will be offered on Your altar.

Begin today by reading Psalm 51 in its entirety. Use a parallel Bible reading tool and read it three or four times in different translations. Ask God to give you eyes to see and ears to hear it anew as if you are reading it for the first time. As you reflect, listen to the stirring rendition in music, by Keith Green. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rv16YUTCp9U&feature=kp )

Ask God to prepare your heart to receive His life-giving words over the next six weeks. Take a few minutes to write in your journal – what are your “first-impressions-all-over-again” of this Psalm? What is one hope you have for how God will speak to you and renew your spirit during this season of reflection?

Social Media GPS - Cindy Koepp

Texas is an interesting place. The weather can range from freezing to broiling in less than 24 hours, and even if you live in the cities, you don't have to go anywhere to get up close and personal with wildlife. You can travel from sun-up to sundown and still be in the state. Now and again, you'll run into interesting characters who think Texas is still its own country.

I've lived in Texas for years.

I'm one of those odd creatures who has an education from rival universities. My degree in Wildlife Ecology came from Texas A&M University. Then, a few years later, I went through teacher certification at the University of Texas at Austin. After teaching for a while, I went for a Master's in adult education and performance improvement.

These days, I find time now and again to work on my writing and crafts while I whistle tunes back and forth with a silly Timneh African Grey.

My writing is influenced by the experiences in my life, the people I've met, and the God I worship.
